Dr John H Casey (47-50) 30/03/1934 - 15/09/2025
John was Dux of the College and went on to do Medicine at UQ, during which time he was a resident of St Leo’s College.
There are a number of stories about John during his student days when quite a few University rules had to be changed because John was progressing through his degree at an age when he was a couple of years younger than any former students before him. After graduation, he ultimately practised as a specialist Endocrinologist in Sydney before coming back ‘home’ to Queensland to live in retirement at Holy Spirit Village (by St Vincent’s) in Carseldine, where he passed away peacefully, in care, today.
John was an extremely generous benefactor to many causes, one of which was Downlands.
John was the eldest of five Casey brothers to pass through the College: Fr Dermott (47-53) RIP, Denis (54-55) RIP, Bernard (58-61) and Fr Peter (59-62).
